Frequently Asked Questions

Cold pressed is not a new concept. It has been used for many centuries to generate cooking oil from seeds. It is called cold as no additional heat is applied to extract oil from seeds.

Earlier animals were used to move the wooden roller. Today electric motor moves the roller.

When wood is used to slowly crush the seeds at room temperature, the technique is called wood pressed.

This type of oil represents the purest form of oil available for cooking and comes in total natural form.

Traditionally, words like “Chekku”, “Ghani” and “Kolhu” oil were used in India to describe cold-pressed oil.

Health is the most precious treasure we possess. To live a healthy life, we must eat healthily, organic and chemical-free. Oil is the primary ingredient in our food; thus, we need to be careful while choosing it.

Refined oil is one of the most dangerous corporate inventions in the last few decades,  that is significantly impacting human health in the long run.

Refined oil is extracted using chemical processes, high temperatures, and solvents like Hexane. This refining process removes most of the natural nutrients, vitamins, and antioxidants present in the oil, making it less nutritious for the body.

Several research studies have linked consumption of refined oils to diabetes, cancer and heart disease.

The experts agree that refined oils are manufactured with hazardous chemicals and contain a lot of inflammatory omega-6 fatty acids, which can aggravate an impaired insulin response and cause more inflammation in the body.

You are right. We surveyed the Bangalore market and found that 90% of the oils sold as cold pressed are adulterated. Paraffin is an odourless oil that is a petrochemical derivative. It can be mixed with any oil. Sunflower oil is widely adulterated with Paraffin giving rise to a light golden colour of the oil. Original sunflower oil is dark brown in colour.

Paraffin oil is available just at 35-40 rs per litre. If anyone can mix 250 ml in the oil, that gives significant profit to sellers. Unfortunately, we found majority of oils sold as cold pressed to be mixed with Paraffin.

Both are different.

In machine pressed, additional pressure is applied on the seeds that results in heat generation. The output oil is higher in temperature. Though machine pressed oils are much better than refined oils, they are considered less pure when compared to cold pressed oil.

Machine pressed oils also have higher output and are therefore priced lesser. Typically used for coconut oil extraction.

Since cold pressed oils are extracted without heat, it needs more quantity of seeds to produce 1 litre of oil.

Sunflower for example, takes aboudn 4-5 kg of seeds to extract one litre of oil.

Therefore the cost of production goes up. However cold pressed oils are more turbid and are required less for cooking.

Given the significant health benefits of cold pressed oil, the small additional cost is immaterial and should be ignored.

We agree that lot of business are pricing oil higher in the name of cold press and earning huge. We believe in pricing reasonable so that basic necessity of cooking should be affordable for regular use.
